Karadaiyan Nombu Sweet Adai is a soft, rather sweet and steamed and traditionally served with butter. Often served to Dewi and then consumed after Karaduyan Nombu fasting for husband’s service and welfare. Karadaiyan Nombu Adai is prepared on the festival day with rice flour, jaggery, nuts and coconut. Nombu is also known as Savitri Viratham, celebrated by married women and young girls. They also serve the savory version of this Adii during Pooja. It is said that the sweet and salt version of Adai was prepared by Savitri and offered to Lord Yamadharma Raja (God’s death) for returning the life of Satyavan (her husband).

KARADINGYAN NOMBU SWEET ADAI
Karajayan Nombu was carried out by women, who were married and not married to pray to Hindu goddesses for their husband’s long life. We don’t have this exercise to celebrate, so I haven’t posted that they made for this Nombu here. But I want to start doing this Nombu from this year. So I made this there first so I could share this here. The following is a sweet variation of Adii.

About KARADINGYAN NOMBU SWEET ADAI
Karadaiyan Nombu, also known as Savitri Viratham, was carried out by certain Hindu communities in Tamilnadu. This festival is celebrated on the first day of Panguni (Tamil Month), which usually falls in March. This was done by young girls and married women to worship Dewi Gowri to celebrate the story of Savitri and Satyavan. Married young women and girls pray for the welfare and long life of their husbands and future husbands. This is related to how Savithri saved her husband Satyavan from Yamadhrama Raja (Dewa Death).
The women when praying chanting this Tamil spell “Uruguadha Vennayum Oradayum Naan Thrueven, Oru Kalamum En Kanavan Ennai Piriyamal Iruka Vendum”, which means “I offered butter and Karada that could not be separated to him, to give me the desire of togetherness with my husband and I should not have to be shrouded in the moment.
As long as Pooja they prepare and serve two types of existing: sweet and salt. They fast all day, pray and once the pooja is finished, they eat this as their fasting food. At our home, we don’t follow this habit but I want to learn and post all the festival recipes on my blog. In this recipe,
I will share the sweet version and I also share Karadaiyan Nombu UPPU (SALT) on my blog. You can also check it.

Ingredients

Jaggery: Jaggery is the main sweetener for this. It has a taste like caramel and adds a rich brown to Adii. For traditional Prasadam, Jaggery is used. You can also replace with ordinary white sugar or coconut sugar, but the taste and texture may be different.
Water: Water is used to prepare jaggery syrup and cook beans. To be perfect and soft shaped, measure and add the appropriate water.
Cardamom powder: Cardamom powder is added to the aroma and fine aroma. This increases the taste of the jaggery syrup and lifts the flavor of the overall.
Homemade rice flour: I have used homemade rice flour. You can even use rice flour that is purchased at a shop or idiyappam flour.
Karamani / Black Eyed Peas / Lobia: These legumes are rich in protein and are traditionally added to make this. Don’t miss or replace this.
Coconut: Grated coconut or coconut that has just been sliced adds to the rich, crazy and sweet taste. You can replace it with frozen coconut or dried coconut.

Hacking
Soak: Wash and soak Karamani / Black -eyed beans for at least 2 hours.
Cook : Press cooking wet beans for 3 whistles. Then boil and cook the beans for 15 minutes. Turn off and let the pressure release naturally.
Jaggery Syrup: Melt Jaggery with water. Let it boil and dissolve. Always strain syrup to remove dirt. No need to prepare thick caramel syrup.
Smooth dough: Water or syrup must be hot enough while adding rice flour. Gradually add flour and stir without a lump.
Administrative: The dough must be warm enough to make an existing shape. Oil or ghee oil in the hand to prevent the dough from sticking. Use parchment paper, banana leaves or even milk cover to form a disc -shaped and place a hole in the middle.
Steam: Steam is prepared in the Idli oil or steam pots for 8 to 10 minutes. After that, let go and let it cool.
