Important role returns to the godless and magically unstable world of Aramán this week, reuniting viewers with the Warrior table after the bloodshed in episode 10, “Blood for Blood.”
When we last left off, the Soldiers managed to sneak into Delawney Castle in Gormolay in search of Teor Pridesire’s (Travis Willingham) long-lost brother, Cyd. However, after being discovered by House Tachonis soldiers, a bloody battle ensued. The Warriors won, but just barely.
After a long Christmas break, we returned to an episode filled with heartache and political intrigue, but not even 20 minutes in, Game Master Brennan Lee Mulligan finally answered some of the questions fans at the next table had asked about getting the spotlight, and when.
[Ed. note: Spoilers for Critical Role Campaign 4’s episode 11.]
It was established at the start of Campaign 4 that, after a four-episode opening, which introduced the audience to the cast, characters, plot, and lore, the campaign would follow three tables: Soldiers, Seekers, and Planners. The opening ended up being five and a half episodes long, but by episode six, we were fully integrated into following the Warriors in their quest to avenge Thjazi Fang, punish Casimir’s betrayal, and find Cyd.
At the end of episode 11, the Warriors table is now in our rearview mirror, and Mulligan announces who will take the spot next: The Seekers.
Luckily, we won’t have to wonder what the Seekers are up to when we join them next week. Episode 11’s cold open reveals that the group consisting of Sir Julian Davinos (Matt Mercer), Vaelus (Ashley Johnson), Thaisha Lloy (Aabria Iyengar), and Occtis Tachonis (Alexander Ward) are three days’ journey from Dol-Makjar. They made their way through the Dvalmar Pass to the Obridimian Empire’s ancestral homeland House Tachonis, and learned what their plans were. Considering House Tachonis’ massacre of House Royce and the Davinos, we can’t imagine it was anything good.
The Seeker Table is described as being interested in “investigating lore, cosmology, magic, and questions about the nature of the divine and the arcane in the classical fantasy sense.”
This means that if Warriors want to dive into the ins and outs of combat, then Seekers are players fascinated by what makes up the world of Aramán. Expect a lot of note-taking and knowledge disclosure.
Campaign 4 is available to watch live on Twitch, YouTube, and Beacon.tv on Thursday evening at 10pm PDT. If you can’t catch the episode live, don’t worry — Critical Role posts the episode to YouTube the following Monday at 3pm EDT/12pm PDT.
